The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL is one of the world's leading research institutions in the field of organic agriculture and employs around 300 people in Switzerland. FiBL's strengths are interdisciplinary research, joint innovations with farmers and the food industry as well as rapid knowledge transfer. Internship in Data Assessment for Spatial Livestock Modelling

Topics/work

You will work with us on the topic of spatial modelling of livestock. In this role, you will assist us in collecting and assessing livestock data, searching for high-resolution datasets, performing analyses and modelling. You will gain hands-on experience with the data science process and modelling approaches in scientific contexts and contribute to implementing reproducible research practices. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to gain an insight into the working methods of our interdisciplinary department and to learn about organic farming and sustainable food systems.
During the internship, we will define an independent project assignment that you will work on during your internship and ideally conclude with an article in a journal or at a conference.

Requirements

Pursuing or recently completed a degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, geography, agriculture or data science. A strong motivation for becoming a data scientist is required, previous experience in data assessment and handling with R, familiarity with spatial data analysis techniques or setting up gits are an advantage. Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a diverse team. Excellent communication in English is required. A residency for Switzerland or an EU/EFTA citizenship is required.
